Griddle in hot-rolled steel plate
Griddle care guide
For your griddle to last and develop a good cooking surface, it needs to be seasoned before first use. Then clean and oil it after every use.
Before first use
You need: cooking oil, such as rapeseed oil, and paper towels.
- 01Clean the griddle with hot water.
- 02Heat the griddle until it is completely dry.
- 03Spread a thin, even layer of cooking oil over the whole surface. Use paper towels and be careful, as the griddle is hot.
- 04Heat the griddle well for about 15 minutes. Smoke is normal, so do this outdoors.
- 05Let the griddle cool and wipe it with paper towels.
- 06Repeat as needed until the surface has darkened.
- 07Finish by applying a very thin layer of oil.
Tip: Use only a little oil at a time. Too much oil can get sticky and burn on. Different colour shades on the surface are normal.
After every use
- 01Clean the griddle while it is still warm.
- 02Scrape off food residue with a spatula or scraper.
- 03Pour a little water on the griddle and let it boil.
- 04Scrape or brush away the residue. Watch out for hot steam and splashes.
- 05Dry the griddle completely.
- 06Apply a thin layer of cooking oil to the surface.
Avoid dish soap for regular cleaning, as it removes the protective layer of oil. If you use dish soap, you need to re-oil the griddle.
If food has burnt on
Pour a little water on the griddle, heat it and scrape off the residue. If needed, you can use coarse salt:
- 01Heat the griddle and sprinkle on coarse salt.
- 02Leave the salt for a few minutes until it darkens.
- 03Scrape off the salt, clean with a little water and dry.
- 04Coat the surface with a thin layer of oil.
Storage
Store the griddle somewhere dry when not in use. If it will be stored for a long time, clean it thoroughly and oil the surface before putting it away.
